If you are on your way to master the language, it is necessary to understand the adverbs in french. An adverb is a word or a term that will come as a support to the verb or adjective in the sentence, telling something more about them. Let us discuss a few of the types of adverbs and usage used in French.
Time – A time adverb will give some information on the specific timing of an event or an action.
Example: I will go to school tomorrow.
Here, “tomorrow” is the time adverb as it denotes when will I go to school.
Place – A place adverb will come in a sentence where the subject is saying about the location where he would be going or being at the moment. It can be anything describing the place of the event.
Example: He is lying on the floor.
Here, “he is lying” is the main sentence, and “on the floor” will be the adverb as it describes his position.
Doubt – Sometimes, you may not be sure about a specific thing. You can name it a doubtful situation. In such sentences, you will be using doubt adverbs.
Example: He could be sleeping hopefully.
Here, “hopefully” is the doubt adverb.
Manner – There are two ways of describing an event. At first, you can say about the event alone. Next, you will explain how the event happened. The second sentence just includes the manner of the event. So, this sentence will include a manner adverb.
Example: He drove slowly.
Here, “he drove” is a meaningful sentence. However, “slowly” explains the manner of the event and hence, it is an adverb of manner.
Quantity – Whenever you are about to describe “how much or how many” of a thing, you will use a quantity adverb.
Example: Bring me two
